So, I was in the newspaper...

Just a tiny bit thrilled. |
Two weeks ago, my sister and I were interviewed about our art for the local paper. Last Thursday we picked up the newspaper at the local coffee house. We were excited to see it and happy about the experience. My view on art is that if you create it, it's art. You don't need to have someone tell you that what you are doing is art, nor do you have to follow any guidelines, just do what you want, even if it's technically wrong. But I have heard that art is recognized as art once it has a] been deemed so by an art critic, b] had a stint in a gallery, or c] been featured in the media. I suppose no one can deny I'm an artist now.

Sisters Share Flair |
Originally, the interview was set up for my sister, which is quite typical. However, the interviewer chose a large collage piece and some soaps to focus on, but since my sister and I shared in the creative process on those, I had to meet the interviewer. We met, I wasn't motioned to leave, and something happened that normally wouldn't have happened. My sister showed a painting of mine to the interviewer, and then my book of illustrations, both of which the interviewer loved and decided then to broaden the piece to include myself.

I'm in the blue shirt. |
Some interesting points from my interview would include me saying that I'm not an alien, that I coloured an angel green in Sunday School and was reprimanded because it was un-Christian, and that Star Trek influenced that angels colouring.
Consequently, this article led to the sale of an illustration. The one pictured (above) in the article, Fashion Shoot on the Seine, sold locally the day after this article came out. I had intended to gift it to the interviewer because she loved it so much, but as it sold, I did a personal portrait of her.

The Journey to Freedom. |
Also, after the article, I was commissioned for a family history piece, that I titled The Journey to Freedom. The piece was a success and was exactly what they'd had in mind.

Fallera dress of Valencia, Spain |
Prior to the article, I had two commissions come in. She wanted the Fallera dress, with mayoral sash, of Valencia Spain. Then, the traditional dress of Sevilla, Spain.
This commission was really an art swap. They drew something for me, so I was to draw something in return. It was received today to great excitement.
