Well, that was fast...

Jem & The Holograms was a cartoon series that ran from 1985 - 1988.  Jem, aka Jerrica Brennon and her fabulous glam rock band, The Holograms, who with help of her super computer, in the form of a woman, Synergy, become the best band in the universe ever!  ...or something. And we can't forget their rivals, The Misfits... who always reminded me of the girl version of Mötley Crüe. I loved this show when I was a kid.  I, unlike the rest of the girls I knew, liked both the good Holograms and the evil Misfits.  This show also scarred me for life.  In one episode, there is a flashback scene, where Jem had a fight with her mom and stormed out without saying goodbye.  Jem later finds out her mom died in a horrible accident.  To this day, I have to say goodbye to my mom before leaving the house or I'll be just like Jem and find my mom is dead when I come home?  It's just a little messed up, yes.  But it also amuses me. But, so moving along. ...

Why Must There Be The Talking?

I'm not really a fan of customer/employees conversations.  If the workers get too chatty, I'll stop going for awhile and frequent a different place.  There's just no nice way to say "Shut the fuck up", so I simply go MIA... seems better. I'm just the type of gal who has to be in the mood for shop chat... and sadly, you'd have to be a mind reader to know when it's the right time.  I'm also not a fan of being interrupted while I'm speaking.  There's no better place to enjoy evils than at the local Starbucks. It's typical for me to have 2 separate orders because I'm always getting for my sister too.  Let me give you a typical drive-thru conversation. "Welcome to Starbucks would you like to try our nonfat iced hot mocha chai rapsberry latte frappuccino muffin drink?" *GOD!!!* "No, thank you. I have 2 separate orders." "Ugg... hold on." *waiting, waiting, waiting* "Hi! Welcome to Sta...

America's day of independence?

Image
So, yesterday, America celebrated it's Independence Day.  America has been having 234 years of special 4 July's, but how many American's realize what they are actually celebrating on this day?  Not a whole heck of a lot, if you garner the well wishes on your Facebook page or other internet sites.  Seems like everyone's under the impression that a] this is the day in 1776 that we gained our independence from Britain;  b] that we've been having 4th of July celebrations since 1776 or c] that this is the day the Declaration of Independence was signed. *sigh* On 2 July 1776, the American Colonies finished their declaration of independence; basically, "Hey, England!  We don't want you governing us from afar... we want to be independent and separate."  And they drew up a document [with beautifully, frilly language] to say just that.  THEN, it had to be couriered around to get everyone to sign it.  So, by mid-August of that year, The Declaration wa...

The Race for Deep Space? Or The End of an Era...?

Image
Where have I been?  I really need to invest some time in a good space/science related news feed. April 16th of this year President Obama came up with new plans for Nasa and space exploration in general.  I head about this through a friend of a friend and decided that I needed to investigate further. So, he's canned the Constellation Program , which would have sent us back to the moon; stating, "We have been there before"... True.  We have been there before, but there is a certain pull to our neighbor that makes humans on this planet feel a connection with it; myself included.  I feel sort of abandoned... as did all of the other people who absolutely hated this decision, among them former astronauts, politicians, the aerospace industry and the nation's legions of space cadets.    Not to mention that this will end all human space flights after this year which have Florida and Texas up in arms, considering they are based in human space flights.  ...

Cultural Relics From the Space Race Rescued From the Trash

What is garbage to one is gold to another. The juicy new title by Blast Books, Another Science Fiction is proof. Incredibly, most of the images in this book came from discards from several libraries that were rescued by author and space history buff Megan Prelinger for her library in San Fransico, Prelinger Library. Family bonding...?

So, I have current project.  My car.  I suppose to be more specific the instrument cluster in my car.  It needs fixing. The voltage regulators on old Mopars just wasn’t very good, and since it HAS been 46 years since my instrument cluster was brand new, it’s no surprise it needs fixing. Fixing entails little computer pieces sold by adorably nerdy Radio Shack employees and the skill of soldering.  Which is I skill I do not possess. I’ll tell you, I’d much rather be fixing electronic equipment on my lovely vintage beauty by soldering than laying on my back in the unbearably hot sun draining oil from the pan or squeezing my body into a tight spot trying desperately to get this one bolt loose. However, I have yet to do this seemingly simple task.  I am a forgetful gal… also when I’m not forgetful, I’m just too busy. But, on Sunday my dad tells me that he got me a soldering kit.  I thought he meant that he found his, which he already showed m...

So, I'm a reader of teen books.  I'll browse the teeny tiny teen section at our local library and decide on something.  Two years ago, Hallowmere piqued my interest.  I read the three books they had, then had to buy the other three in the series.  I was delightedly anticipating the 7th book, The Marsh Kings Daughter ... but it was never released. Some craziness about the author, Tiffany Trent, not owning the rights to her stories, and the publishing company had decided to focus only on two series of books... which I might add already contain a bazillion books within them.  *sigh* Trent is hoping to regain the rights to her books or that the publishing company will come to it's senses... Here's hoping. Well, my sister was looking for something to read, so I practically forced her into reading what is available of the Hallowmere series.  She fell in love with it as much as I did. Basically the first three books are THE story, which spans the years o...
