That's a whole mess of NO right there It did not begin with this article from Indian Country Today entitled, 17 Redface Costumes You Can Buy , but it was the most recent article about culturally racist Halloween costumes to come across my news feed.  This article in particular, which I read earlier this month, Is Your Halloween Costume Racist? , actually led me to ask some questions, which nobody really answered. I could assume that since no one bothered to accurately answer it (other than saying Ebola would be the most offensive costume this year - seriously, how is that an answer?), that I've been doing things right?  But, since I don't want to assume, I'll have to only half assume. If you reference the second article and the questions it points, I am guilty... but am I? I have made costumes of different cultures before.  They key word here being made.  I have never purchased a costume, nor has it ever been 'sexy'.  Any costume I have ever come...

Polyvore .  It's basically a site that allows you to create fashion collages.  I signed up back in 2011, and created most of my fashion sets then.  A few I created in these past few days.  I would still wear everything I created.  Besides fashion that I long to wear, there are three sets showing my actual fashion.  The first set is my teen years, the second is 2011, and the third is current. So, let's look as some fashion, yeah! Yes,  I was that teen. To be honest, this style lasted from the age of thirteen to twenty four or twenty five (1993 - 2004/05).  I wore other things, but these were my staples. Flare or Wide leg jeans (not super wide!) Military issue combat boots (my father's) I could have thrown in black high top converse as well (both pairs courtesy of the Sal) Messenger bags Large shades Lots and lots and lots of black screen print T-Shirts. Black cuff bracelets.  Lots of black and lots of kitchy jewelry. 2...

Jem & The Holograms was a cartoon series that ran from 1985 - 1988.  Jem, aka Jerrica Brennon and her fabulous glam rock band, The Holograms, who with help of her super computer, in the form of a woman, Synergy, become the best band in the universe ever!  ...or something. And we can't forget their rivals, The Misfits... who always reminded me of the girl version of Mötley Crüe. I loved this show when I was a kid.  I, unlike the rest of the girls I knew, liked both the good Holograms and the evil Misfits.  This show also scarred me for life.  In one episode, there is a flashback scene, where Jem had a fight with her mom and stormed out without saying goodbye.  Jem later finds out her mom died in a horrible accident.  To this day, I have to say goodbye to my mom before leaving the house or I'll be just like Jem and find my mom is dead when I come home?  It's just a little messed up, yes.  But it also amuses me.
