The Safety Action Plan

Image
My town has drafted a proposal about safer driving & wanted citizens to read it & give thoughts. I did read it.  And I did have thoughts.  I do have thoughts on things but I have to be in a... quirky mood to actually voice what I'm thinking, which apparently I was on that day.  I messaged them saying this. On the Safe Roads Hattiesburg Safety Action Plan post it say, "Residents are encouraged to review the draft and provide feedback". I'm unsure what this means. I did review it, but am unsure what feedback means. I do have some safety issue concerns that weren't addressed, but I'm not certain that's what you're looking for. I only saw one thing that seemed to be a typo & an idea that I'm not certain will be beneficial. I'm not sure how to give feedback & if it's the "comment" on the draft at the top, I'd rather not do it that way. Could I just... say the things here? They responded with that this would...

Camp Sister Spirit

This story, The Hensons and Camp Sister Spirit , came through my news feed today.  I read the article and watched the entire video. It is important to me for several reasons; One, this is a story from my home state, and not far from me at all.  Two, I remember it, and Three, it is great to actually know about it after all these years. When I say I knew about it, I mean in a child way.  I was eleven and twelve when they first started building their camp and apparently were all in the news.  The only thing I ever heard, however, were other children laughing, "Lesbians in Ovett!  Hey Derek you live in Ovett, are you going to that camp?"  And parents and children alike simply saying the name 'Camp Sister Spirit'.  Nobody was really talking about it beyond that, at least not in front of their children.  I couldn't see the big deal about it except why would anyone purposefully move to po-dunk-ville, Mississippi?  I knew that lesbians were women who...

Flamingos and Tigers and Frat Boys... oh my!

Earlier in the week, there was a scavenger hunt, turned deadly, in my home town.  New pledges of the  Delta Mu Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity at the University of Southern Mississippi were sent off on a scavenger hunt.  One of the requirements was to take a photo of a flamingo.  But being nineteen, male, and probably drunk, they decided that stealing a flamingo would be more fun instead. Chilean Flamingo at local zoo; photo from local news Long story short; they broke into the zoo around one am, they abducted the female flamingo, and attacked the male flamingo when he came to the rescue of his mate.  They then proceeded to torture the female flamingo and then dump her injured, but still alive body, on my street.  The police were called, they returned the female flamingo, but her injuries were so terrible that she had to be put down.  Later that day the male flamingo died from his injuries sustained in the 'battle'. The guy who actually att...
